10 Long Curly Natural Hair Styling Ideas

Our perspective of long curly hair is hair that reaches your collarbone and beyond. Truthfully speaking, we don’t personally see many clients in the salon with longer lengths in the salon.

The reason for this is that many clients that we see are actually in the beginning stages of their natural hair journeys, as they may have previously followed hair care practices that weren’t the most beneficial. This could include heavily using oils and butters, frequently wearing protective styles and shampooing infrequently which can often result in dehydration, holes from breakage, damage from heat, over-manipulation, hair loss challenges and more.

When working with longer hair, it can require much more patience. With long tresses, you should take your time during cleansing sessions to really work your products through. Depending on your length and density, drying can also prove to be challenging. If all of your hair doesn’t fit underneath your hood dryer and/or you’re really dense, it could require a mix of both a hood dryer and diffusing.

Other long hair challenges include limited options for shapes. Tighter curl patterns can result in a higher shrink and lower stretch.
