We know this isn’t what naturalistas like yourselves want to hear, but truthfully there’s no battling humidity. It’s not necessarily the temperature that naturals are up against, it’s the humidity. Whether you live in a dry or wet climate, humidity determines how much moisture is present or not present in the air. Humidity, your unique lifestyle, and how you would like to show up from day-to-day will all determine how you style your hair for humid days. Listed below are four alternative natural hair styles we recommend you try on the next humid day:
Hairstyle #1: Puff
A hair puff is an easy, quick stress-free natural hair style. You can achieve a puff by smoothing back the sides of your hair with a foam or gel. Then, you can secure the puff with a large hair tie. Please be sure that it’s not pulled too tight to cause unnecessary tension/friction to your edges. You can also make different variations of a puff if your hair length is shorter.
Hairstyle #2: Bun
A bun is a type of hairstyle in which the hair is pulled back from the face, or plaited, and wrapped in a circular coil around itself, typically on top or back of the head or just above the neck. Buns allow for tons of freedom and flexibility, as you can do a low bun, high bun, double buns, side part, middle part, etc, the options are endless!
Hairstyle #3: Twist Out
A twist out can be a very convenient hairstyle, especially for humid days. It involves dividing your hair into sections, twisting the sections into a two strand twist with a foam, allowing them to dry and set, and then carefully unraveling the twists to achieve seamless waves. Hairstyle #4: Flat Twists
Flat twists are a combination of two-strand twists and cornrows in one hairstyle. It involves intertwining two strands of hair on top of each other to form a rope-like braid. Again, this style can be very versatile in you can do two jumbo flat twists, you can flat twist the front of your hair and let the rest hang, etc. We would consider this a great option for very humid days.
